Yacht Interior Woodwork Repair, Replacement and Finish Renewal

Repairing interior joinery, replacing doors and cabinetry, and renewing varnish and lacquer finishes.

hero-thumb

Wood inside a yacht wears far faster than furniture ashore, because of humidity, salt and constant movement. Varnish fails, cabinet hinges work loose, and corners start to crack and lift.

In this service we repair interior joinery, replace parts where needed, and renew the surface in varnish or lacquer.

Our approach is repair before replace: the texture and colour of existing timber rarely match a newly made part exactly, so we prioritise saving the original piece.

What the service covers

Our scope in woodwork and furniture:

  • Scratch, crack and impact repair on cabin and salon joinery
  • Cabinet door repair and replacement
  • Hinge, lock and door hardware renewal
  • Repair of tables, worktops and fixed furniture
  • Restoration of swollen or water-damaged timber
  • Varnish stripping and reapplication
  • Renewal of lacquered and polished finishes
  • Made-to-measure new timber parts (joinery)
  • Colour and grain matching to existing woodwork
  • Interior wood restoration projects

Process

  1. 1. On-board inspection

The timber species, the existing finish (varnish, lacquer, oil) and the depth of damage are identified, and we establish whether repair or replacement is needed.

  2. 2. Quote and colour matching

Scope and schedule are shared. Where replacement is needed, samples are worked up to match the colour and grain of the existing woodwork.

  3. 3. Repair, fabrication and fitting

Repairs are made in place; where a new part is needed it is made to measure and fitted. Surrounding upholstery and surfaces are protected throughout.

  4. 4. Finish and handover

The surface is sanded and renewed in varnish or lacquer, given its full curing time, and inspected together at handover.

Why this service?

Interior joinery does more than anything else to set the perceived value of a yacht; worn cabin woodwork makes the whole interior look dated.

We already see the condition of the woodwork closely during interior care. By taking on repair, replacement and finish renewal too, we remove the need to find a separate joiner and run the work through one point of contact.

Frequently asked questions about this service

Can scratched cabin woodwork be repaired, or does it need replacing?
If the scratch stays in the varnish layer, renewing the finish clears it. Deeper scratches into the timber get filling and colour matching. Replacement is only needed when the wood has failed structurally.
Will a new part match the existing furniture?
We work up samples to get as close as possible. Because wood is a natural material an exact match can never be guaranteed, and we say so clearly before starting.
Is the work done on board?
Most repairs and varnish work can be done in place. Jobs needing substantial joinery or fabrication have the part removed, prepared in the workshop and refitted afterwards.
How long does varnish renewal take?
It depends on surface area and the number of coats. Curing times mean most varnish work spans several days; we confirm the exact schedule after inspection.
